The president will depart Davos, Switzerland, for Kampala, Uganda, to attend the 2024 Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement, which will be held under the theme “”Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence.”

The Non-Aligned Movement arose from the first large-scale Asian-African or Afro-Asian Conference, which took place on April 18-24, 1955.

It is commonly referred to as the Bandung Conference (after the location in Indonesia where it was held). Delegations from 29 nations, largely from Asia, attended the meeting, while most modern-day African states were still under colonial administration.

After departing Uganda, President Akufo-Addo will attend the inauguration ceremony of His Excellency Joseph Boakai, President-elect of the Republic of Liberia, in Monrovia, Liberia.

The president was joined by Foreign Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, and officials from the Foreign Ministry and the Presidency.

The president will return to Ghana on Monday, 22 January 2024, and in his absence, the Vice-President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, would serve in his place in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution.
